Jobsite Preparation

Good Space

goodspaceimage.jpg

  • Relatively clean area (free of debris, flammable liquids or accelerants)
  • Space on the wall to hang a charger; next to the panel is ideal. If indoors, on a stud or structural part of the home; if outdoors, in a safe and solid mounting location.
  • Access to the panel
    • Dedicated 208/240V circuit breaker clearly labeled
    • Panel, breaker and wire are compatible with the charger selected
    • If charger is over 60A, then verify the breaker is within sight of the charger location, or a dedicated switch is installed within arm’s length of charger location.
  • Internal wiring complete and ready for a charger to be plugged in
  • If a networked charger, strong Wi-Fi signal (generally within 50 feet of router)
  • Chosen location gives enough room for charger to reach your car’s port
  • If you do not know if your home is ready, an EV-qualified electrician can help determine site readiness during the application process

Bad Space

    • Area is dirty, unlit or messy
    • Exposed wire is creating a hazardous situation
    • Panel is undersized, unmarked or inaccessible
    • Breaker/wires are incorrect or unmarked
    • Breaker is not dedicated for an EV charger
    • Not enough clearance for charger and cord
    • Charger space is too low or too high
    • Charger location/cord are too far to reach parked car
    • If a networked charger, Wi-Fi signal is too weak
    • If you do not know if your home is ready, an EV-qualified electrician can help determine site readiness during the application process
